After a construction period of 18 months, the museum at Piazza Sordello in Mantua opened its doors to the public in January 2017. The mosaics and remains of a Roman dwelling on display were excavated over a period of ten years.

The site measures approx. 50m² and consists of a large room with a white mosaic floor surrounded by a border with an interwoven colour pattern. The second room features figural mosaics thought to date from the early third century AD. At the centre of an octagon, we see the Roman god of war Mars with helmet and lance, with Venus at his side.
The building protecting these artefacts is minimalist in design and made in marble with a BauBuche roof structure. These materials link the present with the past in a construction that is reminiscent of a typical Roman house.
The BauBuche roof construction was built by Mori Legnami. The architect Giovanni Mori chose BauBuche GL70 beams for their unique structural strength properties. Both the timber construction firm and the architect are delighted with the result and had only good things to say about BauBuche.
